After about a day and a half in planes and airports, I arrived in an overwhelming, bustling city. After checking in at the hotel, my first goal was to eat dim sum. There was a dim sum restaurant 100 paces from my front door. It took me a moment to figure out I just had to walk in and approach a server for a seat. And of course I over-ordered. The shui mai was the best I ever had—shrimp, pork and crab roe on top….Continue Reading “So Long Hong Kong”

I won’t be traveling again until February, when I go to Singapore and Hong Kong. Instead of leaving you with old blog posts from last winter, I have decided to share a story with you. I travel domestically for my job during the summer. This July I was in Cincinnati. It’s a nice city with a lot to see. My favorite thing about the city was my first experience with sushi burritos. However, this post is not about that. It’s about the little Asian market…Continue Reading “The Tale of the Crazy Shop Owner”

Where should I go in Salzburg?

Where should I go in Salzburg? It’s a question I asked a week before my trip. I received many answers ranging from “go to this club” to “eat Indian/Mexican food.” Seriously? I must have asked the wrong people because these answers were appalling. When it comes to travel, I have one rule that stands above the rest. Never go any place you can always go at home. Instead of writing about today’s events, I decided to sum up what to do in the city. Food…Continue Reading “Where should I go in Salzburg?”

Eggs and Chocolate Cake

I ate eggs and chocolate cake for breakfast. No, not mixed together. I went to Cafe Sacher and immediately knew I’d be overpaying for food from the look of the decor. Chandeliers, grandma’s wallpaper and marble tables. There was some information on the table bragging about their famous chocolate cake. A secret 188 year old Viennese recipe. I thought it might be trickery, but I’ve also bought into the fame of Cafe Du Monde’s beignets. That’s because they’re delicious. After finishing my overpriced ham and…Continue Reading “Eggs and Chocolate Cake”

Where to go in Salzburg

I originally planned to go to Cafe Bazar for breakfast this morning. Since I went there yesterday, I decided to try something else. I walked to Cafe Habakuk for what looked like a crepe, but I forgot to see if they were open. I wanted to just walk around and take in the scenery until I found something else, but thought better of the idea considering most places wouldn’t open for another two hours. Most places seemed to only serve coffee and pastries. I wanted…Continue Reading “I Decided to Try Something Else”

I Made It to Salzburg

Today I flew from Nashville > JFK > Düsseldorf > Salzburg. It was a long 17 hours, including layovers. I’m pretty sure I was the only non German speaking passenger on my flight to Germany and I nearly missed my last flight because they changed the gate without announcing it. The only reason I figured it out was because I looked up from my iPad to see the gate boarder had left and I was the only one there, other than these two European women….Continue Reading “I Made It to Salzburg”

Catching Up on the Last Four Years (Part 2)

SCOTLAND: “I Love Scotch. Scotchy Scotch Scotch.” I actually do love scotch, so Scotland was an easy choice. However, I spent more time in museums and art galleries than anything else. The city also had its own art to offer. One of the art galleries, The Lighthouse, had a set of spiral stairs you could climb.  At the top was a beautiful view of the city. I only had one (technically two) mishaps with food. I walked into a cafe called Stereo, but didn’t realized…Continue Reading “Catching Up on the Last Four Years (Part 2)”
